All the various pumpkin look fine, they had warm weather to get them started, and along came the rain at just the right time and it is still raining! Net result of all this water, will be bigger pumpkin than we have been used to. They are all looking to be big and in some cases have not stopped growing yet. For those of you who have not booked your needs, you need to think about it soon.
Having grown pumpkin, at Lyburn, for some 40 years now, the season runs from August to Christmas. Lyburn Farm is situated on the northern edge of the New Forest, on the Hampshire Wiltshire borders, between the villages of Nomansland, Hamptworth, and Landford and extends to approximately 500 acres. We grow a range of Pumpkin and Squash, some organic and some non-organic. The squash varieties we grow are Crown Prince, Kabocha (Hokkaido), and Acorn. Occasionally some more exotic varieties.
Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers
Lyburn farm makes a variety of different hand made cheeses, all of which are made from our own cows milk. Although they are pressed, these artisan cheeses are not that close to cheddar cheese. They are, in general, a softer and a more continental type of cheese, with the exception of Old Winchester and Old Smales. The Lyburn Gold, is where we start and details of this cheese and all the others can be found on the next page headed ‘Cheeses’.
